  • Entry Way - If it is going up against a wall with stairs, really look at where the height of the table will hit the stairs and see if that feels ok.

  • On a Wall- Under Art/Mirror

  • Behind a Sofa

    • Should not be taller than the back height of the sofa. Ideally around 2-4” shorter than the sofa.

    • Leave between 4”-18” on each side. Should be approx 3/4 the tenth of the sofa

    • Consider what will be sitting on top, make sure it has the depth for coffee table books or lamps if you are putting them on them.

Other items to Consider when selecting a console table

  • Is there baseboard heat again the wall you are placing it on. If so, you don’t want the console legs sitting if front of the baseboard heat because then there would be a gap between the wall and the back of the console.

  • Look for Heat/AC returns, grates. Make sure that the legs are not sitting on the grates or if it is closed piece (not with legs) that it doesn’t cover the return.

  • Look at where the art or mirror will be places on the wall over the console and make are that it will not over light switches or thermostats.

  • Will it receive lots of use with glasses and food- you can always have a piece of glass cut to the size of the table top.
