Should you hire an Interior Designer?

Absolutely! We love designers and decorators. They are amazingly talented (our founder is one). They see things other people don’t see and can add great experience and knowledge to a project. If you can fit them into your budget, we really believe you should make that work. If it is not in your budget or you want to do it on your own, we are here to help you along the way.

Here are some tips for working with a designer:

  • Trust is key.

  • So is open communication and transparency.

  • Before you sign a contract, get referrals from past clients and speak with them

  • Find out what the designer’s pricing structure is, don’t be afraid to ask questions..

  • Sign a contract before you begin any work.

  • Always ask for a quote before your designer orders anything for you… protecting you and your designer.

AND BETWEEN US……

  • Don’t send them a text over the holidays asking them to scour holidays sales—they deserve their holidays too.

  • Treat them like you wish to be treated.

  • Put everything in writing, preferable over email, to avoid conflict and misunderstanding.

  • Don’t text them first thing in the am or late at night—they are people, too.

  • If you find yourself trying to micromanage them, ask yourself if you trust them. If you don’t, you should address that—see where that is coming from.

  • Don’t expect them to extend you their designer discounts—they have to make a living, too.

  • Understand that your project takes time—your designer is not a short-order cook.

  • Don’t plan a party or book houseguests any time near your project finish date. Projects always run over their deadlines, and if it isn’t 100% perfect and complete by the time of an event (and that will bother you), be smart and just don’t make those plans. Everyone will thank you!

  • Do give credit where credit is due.

  • Be respectful and kind!
